During our recent trip to Riga, we stayed at Konventa Sēta Hotel, right in the heart of Riga's Old Town. It ended up being the perfect base—quiet, full of character, and just steps from St. Peter's Church. The hotel was completely renovated in 2023, but they didn’t just give it a facelift—they brought the heritage to the forefront in a really thoughtful way.

The property is made up of nine historic buildings, all connected through a peaceful courtyard. We loved starting our mornings there with a takeaway coffee - it was calm and quiet, even though we were right in the middle of everything.

What really stood out to us were the preserved architectural features throughout the hotel. Our room had original wooden beams and sections of the old stone walls, which had been carefully treated with special paint to maintain their integrity. It gave the space so much character - like a quiet nod to the building’s past, but with all the comfort you'd want from a modern stay.

We later found out that the complex dates back to the 13th century, once part of a convent and later used as a shelter for the poor and widows. They’ve renovated everything under the guidance of the National Heritage Board and archaeologists, so you know what you’re seeing is authentic. We appreciated how much care had gone into that—especially as people who seek out more authentic meaningful stays over generic hotel chains.

Dining options include Two More Beers, a beer restaurant located within the hotel complex, offering a variety of local and international brews, as well as being well rated for their food offerings. We especially loved their 'Wheel of Beers' - a fun way to try something new if you are struggling for choice. The complimentary breakfast is also served here. It's a relaxed, unfussy setup with all the essentials—eggs, pastries, fruit, coffee—ideal for fueling up before a day of exploring.

There is also a pastry shop on site called Cruffins, which quickly became a daily stop for us. Their cruffins are freshly baked every morning and dangerously good—somewhere between a croissant and a muffin, with seasonal flavors that change often. We may or may not have tried more than one... per person.

The hotel has 161 rooms, but because they’re spread out across multiple buildings, it never felt busy or overwhelming. If anything, it felt like we were tucked away in our own little corner of Old Riga. That balance—between being immersed in the old town but still having a sense of peace and privacy—is what made this stay stand out for us.

There are also apartments with kitchenettes, making them suitable for longer stays or families with children.

It's a place where history is something you get to live in, even if just for a few days. If you're planning a trip to Riga and want something central, quiet, and full of character, Konventa Sēta is a great option.
